EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Hello, and welcome to the PSX-PSP help thread. Here, you'll find a whole assortment of all the main info you'll need and want to know when operately PSX-PSP games properly. If the information you wanted is not here, feel free to ask away.

Anway, lets begin:

-Commonly Asked Questions-

-My Game/s won't work!-

This could be one of three reasons:

1. The game ID you currently have on your game simplely won't play your game correctly. However, there is hope! Most games that may not work on their original ID can still be played perfectly by using another! Check for compatibility Here!

2. The pops(3.51, 3.72, etc for example) you're using may just not work for the game you're on. again, check the link above to see which pops works best for your game.

3. You just got one of those few games that simpley don't work on the PSP no matter what you do! Drats!! There is hope though. With each new pops release, compatibility increases, and your game just may be playable in the future. You just have to hope.

-What is a Game ID?-

A game ID is something you use on the PSX-PSP game that was the ID of the game disk when it came out. Using different IDs though for a game that doesn't work(such as the SLPS IDs) can actually make a game that doesn't run, freeze, or mess up, work. For example: The FFVIII US game ID is SLUS00910(the main ID at least). However, the game can freeze during battle when you use this ID; But, when using the Japanese game ID SLPS02180, the game works perfectly now, and there are no more freezes!

-How do you use L2/R2?-

The L2/R2 buttons are on the analogue stick. If you want to change that, go to: Controller Settings-Assign Buttons- and choose from one of 4 settings(for pops 3.90 M33 and below). If you have 3.95 Gen and above, you can customize your controller completely!

-Can I use my saves from a different ID onto another(the same game though)-

Yes you can. I'll use FFVIII's 2 game ID's as an example, but you could use this method for any game. First, download the "lag" version(has no more lag though, remember that, nor does it have any freezes), and start it up. Wait until it goes to the Square logo at least, then exit the game(basically, that means start up the game you have with the new ID you want, and then exit it. This allows the savefolder to be created with the other necessary files). Now, go onto your memory stick, and go to SAVEDATA. Take these two files(SCEVMC0.VMP and SCEVMC1.VMP) out of your SLUS00892 folder(which contains the save of the freeze version you've been using) by copying them into the newly formed SLPS02180 save folder. Then, start the no-freeze/lag version, and you're set.

-How do I extract the EBOOT from a rar/zip

that's in multiple parts?-

The file(EBOOT) is just split up into different parts. Once you extract it from any of the parts(make sure to have all of them in the same spot), that's it.

For MD EBOOTs, all the disks have been put onto one EBOOT, so there isn't more than 1 file really. If you want to switch disks, go down to the MULTI-DISK section.

-Where to put the EBOOT?-

Simply take the folder with the EBOOT inside(make sure it's there, and if there is not a folder, but only an EBOOT, put it into a folder) and stick that in the GAME folder in your memory stick. Remember, you'll have to have a custom firmware in order to play these games. If you just have the EBOOT by itself, make a folder in GAME, and stick it in there.

-Multi-Disk EBOOT Questions-

-How to change disks-

Now, during the execution of the game, when pressing Home to activate the PSX menu, you'll notice an extra feature which says "Change Disk".

(This pic was taken in a different language, but I believe you get the jist of that)

Next, you simplely click on that, and change to the next disk. One thing though; you'll only be able to switch disks when it tells you, and not any other time. Don't worry, it knows when it's switching disks, so there's nothing to worry about. Now, I'm not sure, but if at any time it does allow you to switch disks with no warning, do not proceed as I believe it will just mess up the game you're currently in.

To simplely change disks, press "Reset Game", and it will state which disk you're on. Simplely press up or down to scroll through the disks and pick the one you want.

-How would I go upon creating my own multi-disk EBOOT?-

Simple. First, you download the new(2-3-08) Popstation v.3 here. Next, make sure you have the psx backup ready(can be ISO, NRG, IMG, BIN and MDF). Then you just get an image for the background and an icon, select the game ID you want, then press create. There, you have your own MD EBOOT.

-Features of PSX-PSP games-

-Single Disk EBOOT Questions-

-Ah! How do I switch disks?-

Some games allow you to save before you go to the next disk(such as Final Fantasy ), so you simplely save it, delete/add the next EBOOT disk onto your PSP, and continue from there. However, many games will not allow this, so unless you want to go through a very complicated process few have been able to do, use Multi-Disk EBOOTs.

-Features of PSX-PSP games-

There are multiple modes on PSX-PSP games, and here they are:

1. Quit Game: Quits your game of course.

2. Controller Settings: Here you can do two things- change your controller from port 1 to 2, or customize your controller settings with these two names: Assign Buttons and Assign Controller Ports.

2.5 Change Disk: Only mult-disk users have this, and it allows them to change disks during a moment when you need to do so.

3. Memory Card Utility: Allows you to move saves to different "memory cards"(other games) like you'd be able to on a Playstation. On lower pops, this option isn't available.

4. Other settings: Includes a variety of sub sections -

A) Screen Mode: Lets you change to "Original", "Normal", "Zoom", and "Full Screen".

B) Black Level Adjustment: Game too dark or bright? You can set the brighness or darkness either two steps up or down here.

C) Volume Adjustment: Same as the black level adjustment, you can boost the volume up two steps, or even down two as well.

D) Disk-Load Speed: Depending on the game, it could: Make it load faster, glitch the game, or allow for things to work that didn't before. There are two options: Normal and Fast.

5. Software Manual: This is where you access your document file if you have one.

6. Reset Game: Does one of two things depending on your EBOOT: It either just resets the game, or if you're using a multi-disk EBOOT, allows you to switch disks.

-How do create an EBOOT/What program do I use?-

I use this one myself: PSX2PSP v.1.4.2 It not only creates single disk games, but multi-disk games as well. To use, simplely get your PSX backup, select it, get an icon and pic, and then you create the EBOOT. It's all very simple to do and it won't take long to make.

-Popsloader-

-What is popsloader?-

Popsloader is what people use to change the way the PSX games run on the PSP. Higher pops have more features, but some games may only run when you set the pops on the popsloader to a lower setting(such as 3.71, 3.40, etc). The reason there are multiple pops is beacause that's what we call the "Sony PSX Emulator" and it's version. When Sony updates the firmware with "New PSX support" it actually means they've expanded the compatibility for other games and/or have added new settings to the firmware.

-How do I use popsloader?-

After you insert the seplugins folder into the root of your PSP's memory stick, shut off your PSP. Then, before you turn your PSP on, hold the "R" button. You'll get to the Recovery menu. Go to "Plugins", and enable Popsloader. Exit out, and then to to your PSX-PSP game. Right before starting it, hold R again, and keep it held until you see a list of firmwares. Select the one you want(for Multi Disk EBOOTs you can only select 3.71 and above/ Original Flash), then start the game. You will now be in that version of pops for the PSX-PSP emulator.

-Help! My Popsloader isn't working!!-

"I can't get it to work!!! It just doesn't show up when I start the game!"

Make sure you have no other plugins enabled when popsloader is on.

"Agh!! I get the popsloader menu up, but when I select something, it just freezes!"

There may be two things wrong. One: You don't have all the prxs to the pops to use them. You need to download one of the following:

For 3.71 M33 Users(Pops):

All Pops 3.00 - 3.72

Remember: 3.71 M33-4 users must get the 3.71 version, and everyone else who has 3.80 M33 and above must get the v2 3.80 popsloader, or else it'll freeze!

As for two: Are you using a multi-disk game? If so, you can't go below 3.71 pops as the other pops weren't built to play MD EBOOTs. When using single disk EBOOTs, you should have no problem.

-Documents On PSX-PSP Games-

-Where does the manual/walkthrough DOCUMENT go?-

Take it out of the .rar/.zip/whatever it's in, and inside the folder you'll see the document file. Insert that file into the same folder as the specified game and it will be avaliable during the game.

-How do I operate the manual/walkthrough during PSX play?-

Press home to bring up the menu. Then go to where it says Manual, and press X. You'll start out on the front page(where it'll say the game). To go to the next press, press right on the D-Pad, and left to go back. To go 10 pages at a time, press the R button to go forward, and L to go back. You can also scroll up and down on each page using the D-Pad. When you exit(the menu or the game entirely) when you go back on, it'll take you back to the last page you visited(for convenience I suppose).

On the Document files I create, the first part is the manual of the game and afterwards you'll get to the walkthrough.

-How would I create my own Document?-

First, download this program here. Now, you can put together not only image files, but text as well. Make sure to save your text file though on notepad in "Text Document" format. You can change your font and size, and overall, it's a very nice addition for those who need a quick walkthrough/manual fix.

-Miscellaneous-

-Can you play PS2 games on your PSP, like, with popsloader or something?-

No, and the answer is still no. It will never be possible to play or emulate PS2 games on the PSP, and the popsloader is mearly to help emulate the PS1.

-Do UMDs or other PSP modes effect PSX-PSP play?-

No again. No setting you use for UMDs, the mode they're in, or other related features disrupt PSX-PSP play. Don't listen to people telling you otherwise. However, if you're using something like popsloader or cwcheat, only one plugin can be enabled at a time; So, if the game freezes on start up, or the plugins don't work, remember: Just enable one at a time.

-What's the best PSX emulator/which one should I get-

This is where people get the wrong info. There is no "PSX emulator". You're able to play PSX games on your PSP thanks to Sony putting the codes into the PSP to play them correctly. That's basically what "pops" is. The only thing you need in order to play PSX-PSP games is a custom firmware. Currently, if you're really into playing PSX games, I'd get either the custom firmware 3.90 M33 or 4.01 M33-2.

GAMES INFORMATION
Eboots Info: All of them have
- fixed save slot (default saved game ID)

- All multi disc games have uniform save game name and ID. I usually use the default disc 1 info in all the the eboots made.

- .png files customized.
- no compression made unless otherwise indicated

- I'm using 3.03OEC to test the games. Now using 3.52 M33 (8/15/07)
